The term “upper body strength” is most often associated with athletes when discussing or evaluating their performance. The term actually encompasses three sets of muscle groups that work in tandem with each other, ones’ chest muscles combined with arm muscles and back muscle groupings. These three muscle groups produce power that allow humans to pick up heavy objects, pull or push things, or reach for overhead objects.
Upper body strength can be increased by a proper exercise regimen. Often, such simplistic routines as bench presses or push-ups can provide increased upper body strength. Before beginning any exercise routine, however, one should be sure to stretch the muscle groups that are being targeted, to avoid any strains or pulls that will have a negative affect on overall performance.
